POOR BUT SEXY

Interior design, 82 m² private apartment in an Altbau building

Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin, Germany

Low budget S project, 2014

This full renovation project is located in the Berliner Prenzlauer Berg in an old traditional building known as “Altbau.”

In its former state, the 82 space had a problematic layout with a very robust centrally placed wall decorated with all the signs of its time.

The first thing done by HAA&D was to strip and refurbish various elements in the apartment from the doors to the floors. The doors were decorated with vintage art by an Israeli artist and the wooden floor was restored and treated with oil.

Used to a different spatial use and layout, the clients (a small family migrating from Tel Aviv) needed individual adjusting. The overall area was brightened up and a bit of the Tel Aviv character was integrated with the original infrastructure and elements of the Berliner Altbau Apartment.

Following the sustainability values, the furniture was purchased second-hand, lights were bought from small local shops, and custom carpentry was designed. To complete the look, vintage elements such as the pictures depicting the old street views of the city were brought from Tel Aviv.
